Web browser
A Web browser is a computer application for receiving and sending information on the World Wide Web (www). The information may be a text page, image, video, game or other contents.
The browsers are mostly used to access the World Wide Web, but are also used to access private networks, Web servers, file systems or play a game directly in the browser.
Some of the most famous web browsers are Internet Explorer (IE) created by Microsoft in 1995. Internet Explorer had a Web browser usage share of 60% in April 2010.
One year later in 1996 Opera appeared on the browser market and now Opera being preinstalled on over 40 million mobile phones and also has the browser installed in video game consoles like Nintendo´s Wii. In April 2010, Opera had 2% usage of the browser share.
In 1998, Netscape (Mozilla Foundation) launched the open source software that in time have grown into Firefox. In April 2010, Firefox had 25% of the web browser market.
The Apple-based Web browser Safari had its first beta release in January 2003 and in April 2010 Safari had 5% of the entire browser market.
In September 2008, Google introduced their Web browser Chrome, which in April 2010 has increased to 7% of the usage share.
